Thematically it's representing an assault against Kharg island in the Persian sea, an industrialized island not far from the Iranian coast.
It's a very short range close quarter combat map where shotguns tend to be favored.ĭESIGN THOUGHTS> Kharg Island is our second map with boat gameplay. Grand Bazaar is a classically mirrored map where both sides have very similar pathways, sideways, and possibilities to traverse heights to get a better view of the action. The fiction has you coming in two weeks after fighting started, so the tight and narrowly built city has a great deal of destruction already when you spawn into the game. There is also a large tunnel section dug into the mountain side at the bottom of the map, and the view when you look up at the starting location is spectacular.ĭESIGN THOUGHTS> We knew we wanted to do something very urban in the city center of Tehran. The further the attackers progress in the map, the more vehicle warfare will be present. The only way down into the valley is to somehow make the 500 meter descent. Attackers in Rush and Squad Rush will start high up on a mountain ridge above a mining facility.
NIKLAS ÅSTRAND'S DESIGN THOUGHTS: Damavand Peak, internally known as Base Jump, is built on the idea that we want players to be able to base jump, and features our most extreme height differences ever in a Battlefield map. Pretty much every type of vehicle is available in this map.
#BATTLEFIELD 3 MAPS FULL#
Caspian Border is one of the obvious map choices if you are after the full vehicle experience, as base distances are generally too long to cover by foot. The border control splitting the map in two was introduced to add an interesting break both visually and gameplay wise in the otherwise beautiful and open landscape. All 9 maps will be playable on all 5 game modes.ĭESIGN THOUGHTS> Caspian Border was meant to encapsulate the classic Battlefield all-out vehicle warfare gameplay, and also to be a lush and green contrast to the more urban and desert maps in Battlefield 3. What this content will contain, whether it's more multiplayer or whether it'll give a new post-script to the single-player campaign, remains a mystery for now.Battlefield 3 will ship with 9 multiplayer maps not including the 4 "Back to Karkand" DLC maps. EA is being especially mum about this one, showing nothing more than a logo which highlights a soldier surrounded by darkness with a knife drawn. The fourth (and final…that we know about) Battlefield 3 expansion is coming sometime towards the end of the year and will be called End Game. As one would expect, new vehicles will be introduced as part of this pack. In contrast to the smaller maps of Close Quarters, Armored Kill will be a return to form for Battlefield, with a focus on large-scale maps with vehicle-on-vehicle combat. The expansion will also see the addition of 10 new weapons to the Battlefield arsenal.Ĭlose Quarters will be joined in the fall by the third Battlefield 3 expansion, titled Armored Kill. In the announcement, DICE executive producer, Patrick Bach, mentioned that the maps would be similar in flow to Operation Metro, the map that was featured in the Battlefield 3 multiplayer beta. Instead of large-scale battles between tanks and jets, Close Quarters will offer up room-to-room combat between infantry. That expansion will have some company in June, with the release of the next Battlefield 3 map pack, titled Close Quarters.Ĭlose Quarters will feature four new maps which, predictably, are all considerably smaller than the standard, wide-open Battlefield maps. Electronic Arts has always promised that Battlefield 3 would receive copious amounts of post-release content, but since the game came out last October, there has only been one expansion: Back to Karkand.
